Does america really owe money to ireland for their accents? and how much?
No, they just owe money to refund us what we spent going to the cinemas, where we had to put up with the shyte Hollywood impressions of Irish accents by the likes of Tom Cruise, Michael J Fox, Julia Roberts etc.
I agree with R-G we should be refunded for the bad impressions of Irish accents we've to listen to in movies.
No, and Ireland should perhaps be grateful the US doesn't keep proper track of it's receipts. I'd keep mum if I were them.
$271.54 hmm, I think I have that on me. Would you take a cheque?
Edit - such very thin skins some have
No, it's actually $271.54
Would you like that in euros or dollars?
1)Yes
2)The pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
Not now but they once did and it was actually quite a lot of money running into the millions.
In 1971 a half crazed senator called Jim Jack Charles Fitzpastry proposed that an equitable solution could be met if some American asset could be transferred to irish possession in lieu of the debt. Senator Fitzpastry actually proposed the Hudson Bridge, but an appointed commission latter decided on the Statue of Liberty. The Irish government acquiesced on the proviso that an annual payments of 18 million dollars would be received for a period "not exceeding 15 years in an effort to feed the gabsheen." This was agreed and the lengthy process of dismantling the icon from Freedom Island and delivering it to Ireland began in late 1973. The Statue was shipped into the port of Derry on the 18 July 1974. Curiously this was the same day that the Republic of Ireland footy team won their one and only world cup against a solid Brazilian side. It was also the anniversary of when an irish army under Brian Boru defeated Genghis Khan at the battle of Helmbut in AD1211.
I agree with RG & Like A Fox those accents that we have to put up with in those movies are awful, & sound nothing like the accents here in Ireland, they make me cringe the way they do them..
